20ft Bunded Open Side Storage Container With Mesh Floor

This 20ft bunded open side storage container is built for drums, cans and IBCs that must be kept dry, ventilated and off any liquid that escapes them. The floor is galvanized open mesh, so anything that leaks drops straight through into the sealed bund underneath instead of spreading across a deck. One entire long side opens on a pair of hinged double doors giving about 19ft 1in (5.82 m) of clear access, and a second pair of double doors sits at the end. It is converted from a one-trip container, so the steel is effectively new. External size is 19ft 11in (6.06 m) by 8ft (2.44 m) by 8ft 6in (2.59 m).

Operations that need this specification

  • Fuel, oil and lubricant stores on farms, quarries and plant yards
  • Agrochemical and fertilizer storage that has to be bunded and ventilated
  • Paint, solvent and coatings stock at manufacturing and refinishing shops
  • Waste and recycling operations handling part-used or damaged containers
  • Chemical distribution where drums are picked and replaced through the day
  • Laboratory, utility and municipal stores needing controlled outdoor storage
  • Any site where an inspector will want to see containment under the stock

A conventional bunded store with a solid floor and end doors costs less, and for stock that goes in once and comes out months later it does the job. The open side changes the economics for anything with turnover. A forklift can reach any pallet in the row directly, nothing has to be shuffled front to back, and a full visual inspection takes a minute instead of an unloading exercise. The mesh deck adds the second half of that: drums stand clear of any liquid in the bund, so a single leaking container does not contaminate everything sitting near it.

Build, capacities and access

The shell starts as a one-trip container, meaning it has carried cargo once before conversion, so the Corten steel, paint and door gear are all close to new. The mesh floor is galvanized against the corrosive conditions this kind of store lives with, and it is rated to 7.5 kN per square meter, which is roughly 157 lb per square foot of distributed load. Twenty-four vents keep air moving continuously around the stock, both doors carry two locking bars each, a lockbox is fitted at the factory, and forklift pockets are built in so the store can be repositioned around the yard.

Internal dimensions are about 19ft 6in (5.95 m) long, 7ft 6in (2.29 m) wide and 7ft 10in (2.39 m) high. The end door opening is roughly 7ft 8in (2.34 m) wide by 7ft 6in (2.28 m) high, and the side opening runs about 19ft 1in (5.82 m), which is what makes side loading practical rather than merely possible. Bund capacity, floor loading and door dimensions all matter for compliance and for whatever your inspector or insurer expects, so we confirm the exact specification of the unit allocated to your order before it leaves. If your storage is governed by a specific rule or permit condition, tell us the requirement and we will confirm in writing whether this unit meets it.

Living with a bunded store is mostly about keeping the bund empty and the mesh clear. Rain blowing through an open side and drips from part-used drums both end up in the same place, so the bund needs checking on a schedule and emptying by an appropriate route, since anything drawn out of it counts as contaminated. Sweeping the mesh keeps the drainage path open, and a spill kit stored beside the unit rather than across the yard is what turns an incident into a five-minute job. Position matters as well: away from drains and watercourses, on ground that does not pond, and oriented so the open side faces the way your forklift approaches.

Delivery, payment and returns

Delivery is a flat $550 anywhere in the continental United States, quoted at checkout, typically one to three weeks after the order. A 20ft unit arrives on a tilt-bed truck and needs about 60ft of straight, firm approach in line with its final position and roughly 14ft of overhead clearance. Think about orientation before the truck arrives, since which way the open side faces determines how you load it for the rest of its life. A level, well-drained base also keeps the bund working the way it was designed to.

Payment is by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe, or bank transfer by ACH or wire. We do not collect sales tax. Our 30-day return with free return shipping applies to standard unmodified units, and a converted store such as this one falls outside it, which is why the conversation before you order is the one that counts. Call us and we will go through your stock, your site and the specification in detail.
