20ft Bunded Storage Container with a Flat Durbar Floor
This 20ft bunded storage container is built from a new one-trip shell and fitted with a 3 mm Durbar steel floor welded in above an integral bund, so a leak from a damaged drum or can is caught underneath rather than running out of the door. The floor is flat, and that is the real difference between this and the mesh-floor versions. You can roll drums across it, run a pallet truck over it, sweep it and wash it down without fighting a grated deck. The external footprint is the standard 20ft x 8ft (6.06 x 2.44 m).
What Goes in a Bunded Store
- Drummed oils, lubricants and hydraulic fluid at a depot or plant yard
- Agricultural chemicals, pesticides and treatment concentrates on a farm
- Paints, solvents, thinners and coatings at a workshop or body shop
- IBCs and part-used containers that need locking away between jobs
- Waste oil and used fluids waiting on collection
- Site chemicals on projects where an inspector will ask where the containment is
- Any liquid stock where a spill would reach a drain, a watercourse or bare ground
The improvised alternative is a standard container with drip trays and spill pallets inside it, and that works right up until somebody stacks a drum badly or a tray fills unnoticed. A purpose-built bunded store puts the containment under the whole floor area rather than under individual items, and it arrives as one sealed, lockable unit with nothing to assemble on site. Against the mesh-floor version of the same store, the flat floor is the better all-rounder for handling. You lose the drainage a grated deck gives you and gain a surface you can actually move stock across. If your goods drip constantly rather than occasionally, the mesh version may suit you better. Cost sits in the middle of the range. A plain container plus a set of spill pallets is cheaper up front, a fabricated chemical store built to order costs more, and a bunded container lands between the two and arrives complete.
Build and Fittings
The base unit is a one-trip container, so the steel is new rather than reclaimed, and the whole structure is Cor-Ten throughout. The 3 mm Durbar checker plate floor is welded into the container rather than laid on top of the existing deck, which is what makes the bund below it a sealed volume instead of a tray. Exterior hinged double doors at one end give full-width access, with two locking bars and a factory fitted lock box shielding the padlock. Forklift pockets allow the unit to be repositioned on site. Because the floor is welded rather than bolted down, there are no fasteners to work loose and no seal to perish where a tray would meet the deck. Cleaning is straightforward: the checker plate gives grip underfoot and the flat surface can be squeegeed toward the doorway.
Twenty-four vents are fitted, far more than the four on a standard container, because stored chemicals give off vapor and a sealed steel box in the sun will drive it off faster. Ventilation at that level also keeps condensation down, which protects labels, packaging and the goods themselves. Regulatory requirements for hazardous storage vary by state, by county and by the substances involved, so check the containment capacity and separation distances you need against your own permit conditions. We confirm the exact specification of the unit allocated to your order before delivery so you can match it against those requirements. Bund capacity is the figure inspectors usually ask about, since it is normally set as a percentage of either the largest single container stored or the total volume held. Tell us what you intend to keep inside and we will confirm the numbers for the unit before you order.
Delivery, Payment and Ordering
Delivery is a flat $550 anywhere in the continental United States, quoted at checkout, typically one to three weeks from order. The store arrives on a tilt-bed truck, so allow roughly 60ft of straight, firm approach and about 14ft of overhead clearance. Site it on solid, level ground, because a bunded floor only measures true when the unit is not sitting on a twist, and the doors will thank you for it too. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay or Google Pay through Stripe, or by ACH or wire transfer. We do not collect sales tax. Standard unmodified units carry a 30-day return with free return shipping, and a modified store like this one falls outside that, so confirm the specification with us first.
